Itineraries

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our driver/guide. Depending on your time of arrival, your driver/guide will take you for a Kigali city tour which includes the Genocide Memorial Centre. Later, you will be driven to Musanze near Volcanoes National Park where you will have dinner and an overnight stay. Getting to Volcanoes from Kigali is a drive of around 2 hours.
Today is the big day! Prepare yourself for an encounter with the gentle giants; the endangered mountain gorillas. After your morning breakfast, you will go to the headquarters of the Park where the park rangers will brief you about the gorilla trekking experience. You will go into the forest in groups of not more than 8 in search of mountain gorillas. En route, your guide will point out previous signs of gorilla activity such as dung, nests, and chewed bamboo shoots. Your trek will be an exciting journey along forested slopes, entwined vines, bushes, and bamboo. Upon finding the gorillas, you will spend a maximum of 1 hour with them after which you will be led back to the starting point. After the gorilla trekking, if time allows, you will have lunch and then go for an excursion to explore the beautiful twin lakes in the region (Lake Bulera & Ruhondo).
After your morning breakfast, you will again go to the park offices where you will start your golden monkey trek. A visit to the golden monkeys is a very different experience from gorillas, the monkeys react and interact differently; they will keep on playing hide-and-seek much to the delight of the visitors. There are two habituated golden monkeys’ troops that are available for visiting. The largest troop has about 80-100 monkeys. In a group of not more than eight people, you will trek for the monkeys and spend an hour with them once you find them. You might have to follow them around because they love jumping from tree to tree. In the afternoon, you will be driven back to Kigali for your flight back home.

Itineraries

Our guide/ driver will pick you up from your hotel at 8:30 am in Kigali and your day starts with a visit to the genocide memorial site. Afterward depart for a 2-hour drive to Musanze, the second largest town in Rwanda, with its stunning backdrop of five volcanic mountains – The Virungas. On reaching Musanze, you will visit the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. These Magnificent twin lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo and its Swamp Rugezi are the excellent photogenic, serene and scenic places for Bird watching activity. Moreover, Rugezi swamp is one of the most seven important birding areas IBAs) in Rwanda. In the evening, you will visit the Dian Fossey museum.
After an early breakfast, you will proceed to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters, Kinigi, to meet your guides for the day. After completing park formalities, you embark on a once-in-a lifetime experience of tracking mountain gorillas. Once you spot them you are allowed to spend an hour watching your closest long lost cousin. This is perhaps one of the most breathtaking wildlife experiences on earth. You get so close to these awesome giant primates, staring at each other blankly not knowing who will break the long silence first. Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Volcanoes is a magical experience. These massive primates are extremely rare with less than 900 living today. You will get within meters of the family and be privileged to spend an hour amongst them. The trekking may be fairly strenuous, up to six hours or longer at a relatively high altitude. We encourage you, for your own enjoyment, to make sure that you are perfectly fit and healthy. (We’ve had people of 70 years old do gorilla tracking so this should not be a problem, all you need is to ask your driver guide to request a shorter group trip for you if you cannot trek far). It is important to bring good hiking boots, long trousers, gloves for protection against stinging nettles, some snacks & sweets (for you, not the gorillas) as well as sufficient water as the rain forest gets hot and humid during the day. You will spend one hour with the gorillas, but it is an hour you will never forget. Return to your hotel for lunch and later dinner and overnight.
Today, after an early breakfast, you will be driven to the National Park Headquarters to meet your guides again for your Golden Monkey trekking experience. With only a small number left worldwide, the golden monkey can be found in the foothills of the Volcanic Mountain Chain (Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda, Virunga National Park, DRC and Mgahinga National Park, Uganda). Characterized by its bright golden body, cheeks and tail, with constrasting black limbs, crown and tail end, these playful primates are a pleasure to watch. Afterwards you drive to Kigali for your flight back home. ( We advise a late flight at 9 pm or onwards)

Itineraries

Arriving at the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a representative of Gorilla Link Tours, and transferred to your hotel in Kampala. Optional Activities: City Tour: Depending on the time of your arrival, explore the vibrant and chaotic city of Kampala. Discover historical and political sites including the ancient tombs of the Kabakas, where the Buganda tribe laid their kings to rest or the Bahai Temple, etc. Eat Out: Kampala is a town full of culinary wonders. Stray out from your hotel to taste some of the eclectic cuisine of the region including Kampala’s delicious Indian food.
Today after an early breakfast, your guide will come to your hotel to brief you about the safari and will transfer you to Fort Portal, close to Kibale National park. The drive is incredibly scenic, passing through villages, lush green forests and hills dotted with tea plantations. You will stay at a wonderful lodge, just outside Fort Portal town, with spacious rooms and amazing views over one of the crater lakes in this area.
Today you will wake up early to go to the park head offices to be briefed about your chimp tracking experience. Kibale Forest National Park boasts the highest number of primate species in the world, including the chimpanzees. Approximately 5,000 chimpanzees live in the wild in Uganda, which makes it a perfect place to see them. An experienced ranger will take you chimp tracking in the morning or afternoon; you might also see other monkey species that live here. Once you locate the chimpanzees, you will have a full hour of eye-to-eye contact with them. Since they are wild animals, we can never guarantee you to see them and might have to settle with hearing their hoots and hollers. In the afternoon after lunch, you will go for the guided swamp walk. The walk (2-3 hours) will take you through grassland, small communities and some beautiful scenery, where the locals are likely to greet you with enthusiastic waves.
After breakfast, your guide will drive you to Queen Elizabeth National Park, home to a high concentration of Uganda’s mammals that include tree climbing and savannah lions, elephants, warthogs, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, Cape buffalo, hippos and leopards. There are also more than 600 species of birds that include the African spoonbill, pied kingfishers, fish eagles, pelicans, and vultures. Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s second-largest park, located at the base of the majestic Rwenzori Mountain Range, adjacent to Lake Edward and Lake George. Lions are often sighted both in and at the entrance to the park. Be ready to see huge numbers of hippos and elephants, and keep your eyes on the lookout for a leopard lazing in the sunshine. In the late afternoon, you will relax at the lodge. Your overnight stay will be at the beautiful Mweya Safari Lodge, located in the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park on the Mweya Peninsula.
Today you'll wake up early. A little before sunrise, coffee, tea and donuts will be served in the lounge before we head out for a long game drive in time to see the first rays of light. You will search for all the wildlife in the park and are likely to come across elephants, buffalo, lions, waterbucks, leopards, Uganda kobs, and many warthogs. A well-deserved brunch will be served back at the lodge late in the morning. In the afternoon, you will take a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel which joins Lake George and Lake Edward. Here, you will see a lot of hippos (more than you can possibly imagine) as well as a variety of other animals which come to the waterhole to drink or bathe. You can expect to see buffalo, crocodile, bathing elephant, and a range of beautiful birds. This will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of your tour.
After breakfast, you will proceed to the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park, the famous Ishasha area, for a game drive searching for the tree-climbing lions. Ishasha is home to the famous tree-climbing lions. While lion cubs around the world frequently climb trees for fun, adults rarely do. The adult lions in Ishasha are an exception to this. It is thought that they sit in the branches to get away from the tsetse flies and to enjoy a cool breeze. If you are lucky, you might spot a few during your game drive. Lunch will be at Ishasha Wilderness Camp in Ishasha. After lunch, you will be transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to mountain gorillas. You will get there in time for dinner and your overnight stay.
Today after early breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing about gorilla tracking. You will encounter one of Bwindi’s endangered mountain gorillas. For most people, this is the absolute highlight of their tour in Uganda. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park boasts both mountain gorillas and chimpanzees—the only forest in Africa that can make this claim. It also hosts five other species of primates, 113 species of mammals, over 200 species of butterflies and 360 species of birds. The gorillas you track are habituated and can tolerate the presence of humans for a brief period of time, every day. The time taken to track the gorillas can be as few as 2 hours to as many as 7 hours. Once the gorillas have been located, your group will be allowed a maximum of one hour with them. Coming face-to-face with a mountain gorilla is a truly humbling and emotional experience.
After breakfast at the lodge, you will drive back to Entebbe Airport. As you pass through the equator, there will be a stop for the requisite snapshot and a bit of souvenir shopping.

Itineraries

Welcome! You will arrive in Uganda at Entebbe International Airport, located on a peninsula that juts out into Lake Victoria, the largest freshwater lake in Africa.
Today, you will drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will make a stop for lunch in Fort Portal town. After your lunch, you continue southwards, leaving the highlands and heading down into the Rift Valley, with the Rwenzori Mountain range in the distance. Head to Kasese town before finally reaching Queen Elizabeth National Park. If you have arrived with time to spare, you'll visit one of the region’s crater lakes, Katwe where salt has been mined for centuries. Lake Katwe, which is situated just north of the impressive Mweya peninsula, is far too salty to support any wildlife. However, since the 16th Century, it has ensured the survival of the Katwe residents, who spend their days under the equatorial sun harvesting salt from its milky waters. Later, you'll return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
After an early breakfast, your guide will take you on a game drive to the northern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park through the Kasenyi track in search of lions, hyenas, buffaloes, leopards, water bucks, bush bucks, Uganda kob plus many bird species including ibis, fish eagles and vultures. In the afternoon, you will embark on a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel a major highlight of your safari. On the boat cruise, you will have the opportunity to view great numbers of wildlife including elephants, crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes and large numbers of birds like eagles, kingfishers, sparrows, doves, weaver birds, eaglets and sun birds converging at the channel waters to enjoy a sip of the natural waters.
The drive, which will serve as your morning game drive will last between 3-4 hours. Have your eyes peeled for more game. On arrival in the Ishasha Sector, you will search for the famous and unique tree-climbing lions. There are about 4 prides of lions in the area numbering more than 40 in total. Look out for the males with their black mane, which is a notable attribute. Also, there are about 1000+ elephants present in the area and you normally see large numbers. There are topi (savannah relatives of the world-famous wildebeests) and Uganda kob antelopes in large numbers. The drive is a fantastic opportunity to take lots of pictures. On arrival, you will go on a search for the area’s famous residents. At the right time, you will exit the park and continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
You will have an early breakfast and transfer to the briefing point. With a packed lunch in your carry-on, you'll listen to the briefing from the rangers on what to expect before commencing your trek. The guides will then take you through the bush, pushing your way through the undergrowth, looking for where the family of gorillas you are tracking spent the night. When you finally locate the family that you are tracking, you'll sit in the forest among the gorillas, watching them go about their day, and marvel at the dominant male, the silverback. It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest in the knowledge that you are in the presence of the few remaining mountain gorillas in the wild. After the mandatory 1 hour is up, the rangers and guides will lead you back to the trailhead where your driver/guide will be waiting. You will receive your certificate and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi.
This morning, you will wake up at leisure and enjoy your breakfast, drive to Lake Mburo National Park. You will make a lunch stop in Mbarara town before continuing to Lake Mburo. On arrival, you will go straight for a game drive to see what this small park has to offer. Lake Mburo National Park is the only park in Uganda with impalas, antelopes and Burchell’s Zebra. You are also on the lookout for elands, giraffes and a lot more. The scenery of rolling hills, lakes, and swamps make Africa real, and it is in Lake Mburo where the Tanzanian savannah meets Uganda in a most scenic fashion.
You will wake up and enjoy breakfast. Lake Mburo National Park is one of two game parks in Uganda where visitors are allowed to go for a bush nature walk with an experienced ranger. On a morning guided walk, you will often encounter hyenas who are returning to their dens after a night of being on the prowl. At the same time, you can often see hippos returning from grazing during the night and returning to the lake to keep cool during the day and protect their sensitive skin from the sun. On a nature walk, you will often see zebras, giraffes, elands, topi, antelopes, buffaloes, birds, and butterflies. After your walk, you will return to the lodge, take a shower and check out ready for the drive to Entebbe. At the Equator crossing, you'll take some fun pictures and purchase crafts from your Uganda safari. You will enjoy lunch at the Equator and continue to Entebbe.
